Dunstanburgh Castle

This ruined castle is built on a remote headland on the coast near Alnwick. It’s a great place to visit as you can walk around, chat and bask in some really interesting local history. The castle was built at a time when relations between Edward II and his most powerful baron, Thomas of Lancaster, had become openly hostile. Lancaster began the fortress in 1313, and the latest archaeological research indicates that he built it on a far grander scale than was recognised, perhaps more as a symbol of his opposition to the king than as a military stronghold.

The self-proclaimed ‘world’s most extraordinary contemporary garden’ has plenty to see and do. It’s so much more than just a garden. You can admire the stunning light installation, visit different markets throughout the year and have a meal in a stunning treehouse.

This beautiful small venue is one of the leading in the area. You’ll find all sorts of productions happening here. From dance to film with everything in between.

Brizlee Tower Stroll

This is an amazing place to visit. The architecture is just so interesting. Combine your visit with a walk around Hulne Park which is also home to Alnwick castle.

This is a lovely romantic restaurant with a beautiful enclosed courtyard that is a pleasure to dine in during the warmer months. They serve fine food and wine at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and is perfect for a first date.
