Tell a friend where you are going, who you think you are meeting, and when you will text them afterwards. Meet in a public place you can leave without collecting a coat from their flat. Arrange your own way home. You can drink or skip the drink. The evening still works.
If the plan involves a train, a flight, or a night away, have a video call first and keep the booking in your own name. A profile that will not appear on camera, but wants you to travel, is asking for a favour the checklist exists to refuse.
Do not pay for their ticket, their rent, their hospital bill, or an investment they have just discovered. Do not read a one-time banking code aloud. Report and block if the conversation turns on those requests. The romance-fraud note explains the shape. Verification explains the badge. The public meeting, the friend, and your own way home still matter.
