4. The Abbey and Dunfermline Palace

Located handily next to each other (the admission price covers both sites) are these two great memorials to the Dunfermline of the past. The remains of the Abbey ruins make for a nice afternoon stroll and an appreciation of the three-tiers of architecture on display here. Dunfermline Palace is former royal palace and has a nice café-come-book exchange called Fresh just down the road from it. Little further afield is the supposedly-haunted, 14th century Kellie Castle and Gardens where art and design-lovers will be easily satisfied. The interiors have been designed by famous architects and designers and the magnificent gardens warrant an entire afternoon stroll for themselves.

5. Loch Leven Heritage Trail Ride

You have the option to hire bikes or use your feet on this heritage trail which takes in the loch, some spectacular views of the Loch Leven Reserve and a great deal of wildlife and birdsong to boot. The trails are mostly flat and cover the north and east shores of the loch.

6. The Scottish Deer Centre

Take a walk on the wild side is the motto at the Scottish Deer centre, and they’re not wrong – with 55 acres covered by over 14 species of deer this is the place to take an animal-loving date. As well as exploring the grounds there’s a treetop walkway to traverse as well as trailer rides allowing you to get up close and personal with the furry park residents. There are plenty of shows and feedings to be involved in too – this is a truly unique date idea.

7. The Peat Inn

The family run Michelin Star restaurant is a great place to take your date if you’re wanting to wine and dine. The stunning Inn is on St.Andrews and doubles up as a luxurious hotel, which could make a fantastic idea if the date was to go well, perhaps you could come back for an anniversary one day? Setting your sights on the present day, the menu is impressive and the dishes are cooked to perfection by the team of talented chefs.

8. Farmers Markets

Fife farmers markets are not to be missed! There are several dotted around so you’ll be able to find one close enough for your date. The characterful traders will enlighten you with information about their fresh products. You can’t attend without treating yourself to some of the gorgeous street food on offer!
