4. The Abbey and Dunfermline Palace

The remains of the Abbey ruins make for a nice afternoon stroll and an appreciation of the three-tiers of architecture on display here. Dunfermline Palace is former royal palace and has a nice café-come-book exchange called Fresh just down the road from it. Little further afield is the supposedly-haunted, 14th century Kellie Castle and Gardens where art and design-lovers will be easily satisfied. The interiors have been designed by famous architects and designers and the magnificent gardens warrant an entire afternoon stroll for themselves.

5. Loch Leven Heritage Trail Ride

As well as exploring the grounds there’s a treetop walkway to traverse as well as trailer rides allowing you to get up close and personal with the furry park residents. There are plenty of shows and feedings to be involved in too – this is a truly unique date idea.

7. The Peat Inn
