Being placed on the south side of the River Tees means its well-placed for jaunts into the North York Moors National Park, and if you have time on your hands, the seaside towns of Redcar and Whitby. Walks and star gazing

If your idea of dating heaven is a long walk but you haven’t the time to get to the moors then Wynyard Woodland Park is for you. Miles of country walking paths loop around a disused railway line, creating the perfect setting for a wildlife –infused walk or a picnic with your date. If you come in the evening on a Friday you can star gaze in the observatory too – and what could be more romantic than that?

 

Shop til’ you drop

You could do much worse than to step into vintage paradise The Olde Young Tea House. Boating on the lake

Take a boat and serenade your date on the boating lake to the east of the park or try your skills on the roller skating rink, topped off by a coffee in the café. 365 - 010 - MIMAMima is Middlesbrough’s Institute of Modern Art, showcasing international artists from the 1900s to modern day, the best news is this gallery is free! This glass-fronted architectural delight also hosts music events at different times in the year. Incidentally, there are lots of art installations to be found around the city, why not treat your date to a tour, taking in the Bottle of Notes in Centre Square and Temenos, the 50 meters high sculpture at Middlehaven dock. Get the adrenal glands pumping with some action on the rocks at Rock Antics Indoor climbing walls. Indoor walls, fitted crash mats, a bouldering wall and trained instructors make this the perfect place to test each other’s nerves and get a bit of excitement pumping on your first date.

 

Food glorious food!

Delicious tapasAfter all that activity you’re going to need some fuel, and Middlesbrough is just the place, with lots of choice for eating out and a variety of cuisines to choose from. If you fancy light bites then Café Bahia offers stylish tapas and Portuguese fusion food. For something more luxurious try Brasserie Hudson Quay or for a place with a pinch of fun making a booking at Pixies Diner, the popular American diner.
