PJ O’Hares
An ideal first date allows you to get to know each other in a fun, relaxed setting without too much pressure. Why not spend a casual afternoon at a traditional pub getting to know each other? PJ O’Hares is a pub in the little village of Carlingford that caters for every type of weather. If it’s a sunny day, there’s a big beer garden to sit out in, and if it’s a bit chilly, there’s a roaring fire. Food choices include a tender beef and Guiness pie or you can opt for a tapas style menu if you fancy some lighter bites. Bru Na Boinne
If you want some stellar views of the area, Bru Na Boinne is the number one place to go. The area is a site of ancient ruins that are over 5000 years old and you’ll be left in awe after viewing the complex Neolitic mounds, boulders and tombs. Spend the start of your day on a guided tour before checking out the museum and visitor’s centre. Clogherhead
If you’re a true romantic at heart – sometimes a perfect date takes a bit of planning. If the weather is nice, why not take a short drive to the fishing village of Clogherhead where you’ll find Port Beach. This is a stunning remote rural beach with some incredible wild plants and flowers including the Marsh Orchid. For a fun, casual and pressure-free date, head to Simona Cafe in the village of Drogheda. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere and it’s not as stressful as facing a full three course formal meal and worrying about spilling spaghetti bolognese down yourself! Opt for coffee and a cake and your date will be stress-free. Celtic Canoes
If you and your date are an adventurous couple – Celtic Canoes has the answer! They are based in the little fishing village of Annagassan and rent out canoes and kayaks. They even organise guided tours such as “The Viking Trail” which is a two hour trip that takes you along one of Ireland’s oldest Viking settlements.
