How To Get Out Of A Bad Date.
By: Elizabeth Marie |
When online dating, there are very few things you can count on. Something you CAN count on, however? You will go on your fair share of bad dates. Some people you just may not click with, and while the lack of chemistry is disappointing, it’s nothing you can’t sit through-hell, maybe you’ve just made a new friend. I’m not talking about those dates, no no. I’m referring to the dates that are so painful you find yourself praying for them to end. Here are a few ideas to get you home sooner rather than later.
1. Tell The Truth.
Novel idea, right? If you aren’t feeling any connection, or can’t find any common ground to stand on, politely and kindly telling your date that it’s probably a better idea to call it quits can be a good thing. Not much is worse than suffering through hours of awkward, strained conversation, and if it’s not there, you can’t force it. Being honest shows you respect the other person, even if you don’t want to date them.
2. Take The High Road.
This isn’t so much getting out of it as sucking it up. Living in the moment. Putting such a positive spin on things that you can’t help but to have a good time. Of course, you’re doing so with the knowledge that you’ll never see this person again…and this adds to your happiness. 🙂 This option doesn’t apply if your date is just horrific-which leads me to the next option…
I hate to endorse this kind of thing…but sometimes, it’s just necessary to get the hell out of there no matter what. With online dating, you never know what you’re going to get, and unfortunately, sometimes you get a bad apple. People aren’t always honest, or you may feel not only awkward, but unsafe. This is where I suggest you pull out every excuse in the book. You’re sick. Your dog is sick. Your roommate is sick. Your roommates dog is sick. Get the idea?
4. Drink Excessively.
…but not too much. And then go home, pour another glass of wine and email someone new. 🙂
