How to Look and Feel Your Best on a First Date
By: Jessica Dante |
First impressions are everything– how many times have you heard this? It’s true when it comes to your career, and the same rule applies when dating. And who doesn’t want to look and feel their best when going on a date– especially the first one? Follow these tips to make sure that you’ve got your best foot forward on a first date.
Get squeaky clean
Right before a first date in the perfect time to get your beauty and hygiene routine in order. Get plucking, cleaning, shaving and spraying so that you’re looking (and smelling) fresh and clean for the date. Not only will your date appreciate your efforts, but it will help you get into the right mindset for the evening.
Exercise that day
Whether or not you’re an avid gym rat, getting a bit of exercise in before a first date will only benefit you. First off, your bit of exercise will make your body release endorphins, which make you happy and energized. Always a good thing for a first date, right? Getting a gym session in before a date also helps you to not only relax but will also give you some body confidence. Even going for a quick walk before showering up for your date will help!
Dress a bit nicer than usual
You may be able to rock jeans and a Metallica t-shirt like no one else, but leave the casual clothes for your lazy days. Dressing a bit smarter than you may be used to will show your date that you care about meeting them– going too casual may give off a “I’d rather be doing something else” vibe. Plus, everyone looks better dressed up! You’ll feel more confident and will look badass too.
Give yourself plenty of time
This one may be for the girls more than the guys (although a select percentage of the male population should read this too). If you’re one to always run late getting ready, then make sure you give yourself as much extra time as possible to get ready. There’s nothing that will kill your confidence more on a first date than half-done makeup and still-wet hair. You also will stress yourself out if you’re running around trying to get ready as fast as you can so that you’re not late.
Know your limits drink-wise
One of the worst looks ever for a first date? The sloppy drunk. Don’t be that girl/guy. Keep it to two drinks (less if you’re a lightweight!) and you’ll stay coherent and smart. You’ll also reduce the chances of doing something stupid, like tripping over your own feet or accidentally walking out of the restaurant with your wine glass. You klutzes out there have enough to worry about, why add three Long Island Iced Teas?
Watch what you eat
Being smart about what food you order can help you avoid looking like a mess during a first date. Thinking of small things like the fact that red wine will stain your teeth or that tomato sauce could easily splatter all over your white top is key. Check out this post on the 5 foods to avoid on a first date for some more help on the subject.
No, no… not in a creepy way. But don’t be afraid to smile and laugh on your first date. Smiling makes you light up and seem like a happy person that your date will want to hang out with and get to know more. And, it’s easy (and free) to do!
